Is fear controlling your career direction - Hallie Crawford
Is fear controlling your career direction Many of my career coaching clients, whether theyâre in their 20s or 50s, get stuck in the swamp of fear because they feel one or more of the following: Iâve been out of the workplace too long to establish an enjoyable career Iâm too old to go back to school Iâm worried about the external voices of judgment Iâve been wasting time pursuing the wrong path â" what if it happens again? What does this fear really boil down to? I often find that what career coaching clients are actually saying is âI donât know how I define my valueâ or âI want to stay under the security blanket so my ego doesnât take a hitâ or âI am clueless as to who I am and what makes me happy.â Want the good news? Itâs NEVER too late to learn about yourself and how you can fully express your unique talents in the world. In many instances, these perceived barriers are not even true! Take my career coaching client, Brendan, for example. In his early 40s, Brendan desperately wanted out of his current job but was terrified of completing a new Bachelorâs degree for a completely different field heâs never even tried before. After Brendan defined what fueled his motivation and best utilized his personality, skills, and work environment preferences, he gained clarity in understanding that he has everything it takes to move ahead. Going back to school was a rewarding and feasible choice; after all, he had successfully advanced in his current company for years and had already completed an MBA program! Brendanâs own blueprint of evidence spoke for itself. Brendan is now half way through his new degree program and is thrilled he took the leap. Career coaching can help you break out of a limited construct and look at yourself and the world through a new lens of intrinsic motivation, value, and confidence. You can always learn something that will authentically direct your career whether it is self-knowledge, formal education, or even assertiveness, communication, and leadership skills to shape your current environment. Are you thinking about a change and wondering if itâs too late? If you are unsure, contact us today. Weâre here for you! Letâs work together and climb out of your swamp of fear onto solid career ground. Stacy Smyk-Santiago Certified Career Coach

Tips For Writing a Resume For Your Future Career
Tips For Writing a Resume For Your Future CareerWhen you're preparing for the job interview, and especially when it's time to write a resume, do you really know what to put on your resume? In many cases, the resume is the first thing people see. Often, you don't even finish the resume until after the interview has begun. This is why it's so important to carefully plan your resume.First, you want to decide which career fields you are interested in. The resume can represent you - and you alone. If you are considering a career change or just simply want to showcase what you have done, you need to do a little research and find out which industries are currently hiring. You can also narrow down your search by location and industry. There are many resources available to you, including the Internet.Think about your skills. Are you really a good writer? Or would you prefer to focus on your soft skills? Many people in these industries are focused on more than just writing. Many of them will h ighlight your leadership, your communication, your interpersonal skills, and even your organizational skills. They will also emphasize your work ethic, initiative, and motivation.Next, you need to determine what you are willing to sacrifice in order to get what you want. Even if you enjoy a certain lifestyle, in the end, you may not be able to have that lifestyle. Are you willing to forego the luxuries you previously enjoyed? Will it affect your ability to do the work required for a job? What about traveling, eating out, and drinking? Then, you need to decide if you want to take a risk. What if you are not offered the job? Who will you be working with? Can you communicate with people well enough? Would it be more comfortable in a new environment or working with a few familiar faces? Finally, you will need to consider how you will manage stress. Some jobs are very stressful. Others are quite relaxing. Ask yourself if you want to live in the middle of a fast-paced city, or a quiet count ryside town.Writing a resume for the job you want is one of the most important things you can do. You want to make sure you stand out and grab the attention of the hiring manager. You need to make an impression that you are the best candidate for the job. So be sure to carefully plan your resume, and make sure it has everything to do with your dreams and aspirations.

However, what many may not have considered is testing out some ideas on Twitter first. You can guide your content strategy on LinkedIn by seeing how these ideas perform and respond on Twitter. Gauge your ideas and content by responses, likes, and overall performance. If you see an idea that does well, then use it a status update or write a blog about it on LinkedIn. Sometimes we tend to make things more complicated than what they need to be. You can try out this very simple strategyUse old-school, easy SEO by inputting a keyword into the title and throughout the text of the article.Tweet the LinkedIn Editors and ask them to feature your article on a specific channel. Remember, the power of social mediaIts not enough to just get it there, remember youre trying to show off your knowledge in front of a very large audience and keep it there. Next, what you can do is continue to drive besucherzahlen to your article from a boosted post on Facebook or from a promoted post on Twitter or LinkedIn to drive traffic to your article. It doesnt have to be for long, but this can create a steady flow.3. Connect with Your AlumniRemem ber when you could easily connect with alumni on LinkedIn? With LinkedIns brde update that disappeared. However, there is a workaround that can be used to effortlessly connect with alumni. You must be logged in when trying to do so. Connecting with alumni is an excellent way to find a new job or just to further establish your network.4. Determine Your CompensationLinkedIn can now be utilized to determine your compensation as well. The salary function allows users to determine their earnings potential by entering their job title and location. After entering some brief information, such as how many years youve been in your current position, it will allow you to enter any additional forms of compensation, such as bonuses or stock options. This feature allows users to see if your company is paying you accordingly in comparison with others in the industry. You also can check by other titles and locations. This data is not shared with your network, it is private only to you.5. Send Person alized Messages with Each of Your InvitesIt is very easy for anyone to just click connect and not actually take the time to write a message and tell someone why they would like to connect with them, or where they met (at a networking event, maybe? Mutual friend?). By sending personalized messages, people are more likely to accept your connection request. I advise using the space to share with them details how you remember them if youve met before at a previous event or from a mutual connection because it helps in forming a connection online.6. Find Networking EventsAnother LinkedIn best practice many people may not think of is to use the social platform to find networking events. Share networking events if you think that they will be of interest to others in your network and use the platform to expand your network offline as well. 7. Become an active engager on other posts and people will engage with yours.8. Join More GroupsGroups are no longer just for Facebook. Joining groups on LinkedIn increases your reach. So, if youre currently searching for a job or just trying to build up your network, this is one of the best ways to do so. The rule of reciprocity applies in here as well. You cannot join and immediately expect results or to receive a benefit. Ultimately, what you put into it is what you will receive out of it.9. Be SocialIts a social network, so be social. People want to learn about you and what you have to offer personally and professionally. This is how others will get to know you best.10. Start a Conversation Positioning Yourself as a Thought LeaderPotential employers are consistently seeking thought leaders. The job market is also competitive, so being overly shy and not sharing your capabilities, talents, and accomplishments will not work out in a candidates favor. This is an excellent way to capture the attention of people and companies.11. Get a Custom URLHaving a custom URL is important for personal branding purposes.
