When Contacts Arent Network Contacts

When Contacts Arent Network Contacts I got the following question today: I add contacts from the company screen with the link that is provided. Yet when I go into my network panel, the contact I entered doesnt appear, even when I search. Shouldnt the contact be available in both places? This is a great question, and brings out one of the ways JibberJobber manages your contacts. Let me give you two scenerios: Scenerio 1: I met someone (Ms. Jones) at Franklin Covey who can be influential in helping me network my way into the company someone who is a considerable influencer. Scenerio 2: When I went in to meet with Ms. Jones I met her secretary who was kind and pleasant. Now, let me first say that I think that all contacts are, or can be, valuable. Im not going to discriminate between the professional/boss who makes a lot more money and the secretary who makes a fraction of the income. Here are two differences: The Ms. Jones will get different kinds of communication from me, like my newsletter (which they would be more interested in) The secretary may not be interested in my newsletter, but she may be more open to making other connections within the company for me. I have to develop a relationship with her in a different way than I would with Ms. Jones, but this can be a great contact. Within JibberJobber we allow you to trap contact information for people that you might not consider part of your professional network. Why? In addition to Ms. Jones and her secretary, you are likely to meet people who really dont even want to (or shouldnt) be in your network. This is where nomenclature gets a little muddled (can you have a contact thats not a network contact??), but heres how we handle it. Anyone that you add as a contact in the Professional Networking section is in your network. Anyone that you add as a contact in the Company section can be in your network, but might not be. Its up to you. In order to add someone to a company AND put them in your Network list panel (or, make them a network contact), make sure you choose a network to put them into (see the red 1 below): (note, #2 allows you to quickly add contact info without retyping it) If you leave the Network Category at the default ( choose one ), this will add the contact to the company but will not add them to your network list! Let me show you: #1, if you leave it at choose one then this contact will be added as a company contact but NOT as a network contact. #2, if you choose No Category, or any other category, then this contact will be added to the company and to your network list. I hope this helps clarify why you might put someone in JibberJobber and not have them show up in your list panel! Also, adding more than one contact to a company is premium feature. Does it make sense to make a contact that isnt really a network contact? Common Writing Skills to Put on Resume

Common Writing Skills to Put on ResumeWhen you first apply for a job and are interviewing, don't expect to write a resume from scratch. One of the most common writing skills to put on resume is to add in the required skills of your previous jobs. By putting in information on how the skills and experience will apply to your new job, it gives you a good impression of your personality and how you will handle situations when working with others. One of the first steps to show how your writing skills can translate into the future is to put in a skill that will translate into the current situation. For example, if you are asked to translate what you have done in the past into the current situation, which skills will you put on your resume?First, look at what you have written in the past. You may have completed projects on jobs in order to demonstrate what you can do. What did you write about in your resumes in the past?Next, look at the job description or assignments that you have completed in the past. In order to get the details of what you were doing, try looking at the description online and copy it. Look for the specific skill that you could apply in the current situation. For example, if you have written on previous projects for writing or speaking, this can translate to writing or speaking for the present situation. Now that you have all the details of what you did in the past and what you can do for the job, it's time to look at the accomplishments that will translate to the present situation. If you had been asked to do the same project as someone else and did a good job, include this information on your resume. If you were asked to learn a new skill or learn new business processes, include this information. It's common for a resume to be designed by those who have no knowledge of writing. Don't be discouraged if you are not a professional writer. The easiest way to go about this is to take notes of things that you see so that you can put them into words. It is recommended that you at least gain some experience before including skills that translate to your writing skills. This is the best way to put in the specific experience you need and will also give you experience when you are applying for jobs. You should not be concerned about your writing skills but instead focus on the skills that you already have and how you can get work done.Although writing is not one of the skills that are commonly put on resume, it is a great way to highlight your skills. Skills that are not listed can easily be added by learning the skills and experience they will translate to your resume.

10 Ways to Manage Storage Space on Your iPhone

10 Ways to Manage Storage Space on Your iPhone Managing your iPhone storage space is one of the most important things you can do to keep your phone running efficiently and smoothly. Managing space on the iPhone can be tricky since iPhones do not have expandable storage, and buying an iPhone with a lot of space can be expensive. Below are ten tips for managing the space on your iPhone so you can make the most of what you have. To get the most out of these tips, there are a number of free iPhone apps such as Dropbox, Google Drive, and Keep Safe to help you save your files to the cloud and manage your iPhone’s space. 10 Ways to Manage Storage Space on Your iPhone Tip #1: Know How Much Storage You Have It’s easy to see how much total storage your iPhone has and how much of that storage has been used. Go to “Settings”, then “General”, then tap “Storage and iCloud Usage”. There, you will see how much total storage is on your iPhone, how much storage is still available, and a link to see which apps are using the most storage. Tip #2: Know Which Apps Are Using the Most Storage From the “Storage and iCloud Usage” screen, tap “Manage Storage”. This will bring up a list of all of the apps installed on your iPhone in order of how much space they are using. Most likely, the top storage-sucking apps will be ones that download media such as photos, music, and movies to your iPhone. Once you know which apps are using the most storage, you can go into those apps and delete unneeded files. Tip #3: Delete Unneeded Files from Apps After you use Tip #2 to find out which apps are using the most storage, you’ll need to open those apps and delete any unneeded files. For example, you can open Photos and delete photos and videos you don’t need (videos and live photos can take up a lot of space). Go into apps with downloaded music and movies (such as Spotify, Amazon Video, Videos, and Music) and delete titles you don’t need anymore. If you purchased titles through these apps, you should be able to download them again in the future if you want to. Tip #4: Delete Unneeded Apps From the “Manage Storage” menu, scroll through the list and decide if there are any apps and software you don’t really need. A lot of companies have mobile websites that work just as good as their app, so you may not really need as many apps as you think. To delete an app, go to the home screen and tap and hold any app icon. Once the app icons begin “shaking”, tap the “X” in the upper-left corner of the app icon to delete it. Tip #5: Use Cloud Storage Using cloud storage is a great way to reduce the amount of storage used on your phone because the files are stored on the internet (a cloud server) instead of your phone. Your iPhone comes with an iCloud storage account that you can use to back up photos, contacts, and other data. Other apps that are free and give you a place to store files on the cloud are Box and Dropbox. You can also periodically back up files on your iPhone, such as photos, to a cloud storage account and delete them from your phone. Tip #6: Use Streaming Media Apps Using streaming apps instead of downloading files to your phone saves storage because the files are never downloaded onto your phone. Netflix, Hulu, Spotify, Pandora, and Apple Music all stream videos and music, which is a better alternative to purchasing the video or song in iTunes. Tip #7: Delete Unneeded Photos and Videos in iMessage and SMS Conversations SMS and iMessages use storage on your iPhone, especially if your friends and family send you media files such as pictures and videos often. Save any photos or videos you want in Photos, then back them up to your cloud storage account. To delete a photo or video from a conversation, tap and hold the picture or video you want to delete, then tap “More”. Check each message you want to delete, then tap the trash can icon in the lower left corner. You’ll need to delete the file from both photos and the message to completely remove it from your phone’s storage. Tip #8: Delete Unneeded iMessage and SMS Conversations In addition to deleting individual messages, you can also delete entire SMS and iMessage conversations. Go to the list of conversations and swipe left on the conversation you want to delete. A red “Delete” button will appear to the right, and all you need to do is press this button to delete a conversation. Tip #9: Reduce the File Size of Photos When taking photos, limit the quality of the photos by tapping “HDR”, then “Off”. Also, avoid taking live photos unless you have a reason to by tapping the circular icon (white means live photos are off). Tip #10: Clear Recently Deleted Photos Recently deleted photos stay on your iPhone for thirty days, so remove any deleted photos immediately. Go to the Photos app and find the “Recently Deleted” folder and delete the same way you would any other photo. References: Fuse Crunch Related Post:  10 Best Productivity Apps to Use

Why Mindset Is the Key to Turning Around a Broken Career

Why Mindset Is the Key to Turning Around a Broken Career Its Called Mindset A man was walking by a circus tent when something struck him. He noticed the elephants used in the performance were simply being restrained by a small rope tied around their ankles.   It was fairly obvious to him that the elephants could, at any time, break away from the ropes they were tied to but for some reason, they chose not to. Seeing a trainer nearby, the man signaled for his attention.   The trainer put down a bucket of feed, and walked up to the man. The man, looking perplexed asked, Why do these majestic, beautiful animals just stand here and make no attempt to get away, even though its quite clear they could break the ropes at a moments notice. The trainer smiled, looking over at the elephants, then said, Well, when they were very young and much smaller we used the same size rope to tie them at that age.   It was enough to hold them.   To this day, they still believe that rope will stop them, so they never try to break free. The man was amazed, here were these animals that could at any time break free from their bonds but because they believed they couldnt, stayed stuck right where they were.   These powerful and gigantic creatures had limited themselves and their present abilities, because of the limitations of the past. Its Called Mindset Like the elephants, how many of us have tied ourselves to a job or situation that, for some reason, we just havent let ourselves leave?   How many of you have felt stuck?   Or felt like theres no way to free yourself from your current pit trap? Instead of ropes we have things like fear, obligations, uncertainty, liabilities, and weaknesses holding us back. Before writing this, I was reading the comments from the first lesson of an online course I took called, WhoopsThe Most Important Lesson College Forgot to Teach You.   In that lesson, I read about understanding yourself, how college doesnt teach you about YOU, and how to really understand what careers youll enjoy. The comments were humbling. So many of you  have gone through HORRIBLE CRAP.   Youre working two jobs to make ends meet.   You are extremely qualified and intelligent, but youre undervalued in your current job.   And some of you are working in tremendously TOXIC environments where the stress, backstabbing and politics are literally making you sick. The circus elephant metaphor is not that far offeven for your work conditions. And to make things worse we often gauge our own entrapment based on what we see in the lives around us. Social Mindset Manipulation Let me explain this. Say you just graduated from college, but you had no luck finding a job right out the gate. You go home, log into Facebook, in hopes of distracting yourself for a few moments to avoid the pity party.  But while you are on Facebook, you see Katy got a job, Jon got a job, even stupid Milo got a job.   And you start to feel even worse.   You see all your buddies starting their careers and feel you must be the odd one out. You start asking yourself,What did I do wrong?   Why do they all have jobs, but I dont? Even though on Facebook, it looks like everyone is leaving you behind for the real world, theres something they arent telling you. What you dont see are the thousands of other college grads sitting in the same boat as you.   People dont want to be that guy who posts depressing, feel bad for me posts, so even though you see and hear about more people getting jobs than not getting them, it doesnt mean thats how it really is out there.   You generally see this inflated sense of accomplishment and achievement on Facebook. And therefore, youll see more Yeah I got a raise and less of Woops I got demoted.   And even all the good stuff you see on social media isnt truly how it is even for that individual. Telegraph wrote an article earlier this year finding that 1 in 4 women exaggerated or distorted what they are doing on social media once a month.   And by the way, Im sure men are just as bad or worse, they just didnt happen to be a part of this particular survey. So now you feel worse about yourself, feel more trapped, and your mindset is all out of place.   In a time where you need confidence, you just feel discouraged. Even though you in particular might not be just out of college getting a job, you still likely feel the effects of this whether its hearing about a friends latest promotion, a sibling landing a job that pays twice the amount you make, or just that obnoxious acquaintance who wont stop bragging about how great his company is. And Ill admit, sometimes you wish something would go wrong for them, just so you can stop feeling so bad about your own life. But when I look back at these same comments and hear about all the nonsense and awfulness you all are dealing with, a small part of your comments show a sense of hope.   I see some lines saying, Ive read books and taken courses on finding career happiness but have never been satisfied with my resultsI HOPE this one is different. And thats good.   I want you to feel HOPE. Just like the elephants, for things to change you need to shake off the misconceptions or feelings that have held you where you currently are. You cant improve your situation if you go into everything designed to free you, with the mindset that all is hopeless.   That it will fail in the end.   That you are doomed to the life you currently live. So, how do you pull the rope off your ankles and move toward a positive mindset? It starts with your own willpower to change.  Being optimistic.  And not giving up. 4 Quotes on Inspiring Hope and Mindset Here are some of my favorite quotes, insights, and motivations to start turning your mindset around. 1.   Success occurs when your dreams get bigger than your excuses 2.   A pessimist sees the difficulty in every opportunity; an optimist sees the opportunity in every difficulty. Winston Churchill 3.   Life is way too short to spend another day at war with yourself 4.   Its not about the shoesIts about knowing where youre going, not forgetting where you started.   Its about having the courage to fail. Not breaking, when youre broken.   Taking everything youve been given, and make it something better.   Its about work before glory, and whats inside you. Its doing what they say you cant.   Its not about the shoes, its about what you do in it.   Its about being who you were born to be. Michael Jordan.

Resume Writing Services For Project Managers

Resume Writing Services For Project ManagersSome project managers may be at a loss when it comes to understanding the importance of resume writing services for project managers. However, most project managers are in fact quite astute and will not readily make any blunder of writing a resume that is filled with errors and has no relevance to their field of expertise. A resume that does not have relevance will only serve to fuel the boss's need to interview the candidate.Resume writing services for project managers are utilized as a means of giving a professional impression. While many people might look at a resume and see a long list of qualifications, these people are usually the types who do not take the time to determine what it takes to qualify for the position in question. These people do not typically have the same caliber of education or experience as a project manager. Most of these people are hired from other disciplines, and therefore they will usually have neither the educa tion nor the experience required to take on the responsibilities of a project manager. It is very important that the individual has the experience and education to fulfill the responsibilities of a great position. The company is looking for a person that can do their job well and doing their job well is defined by how well the person handles all of the various responsibilities that come with their position. Therefore, a resume that has relevant information will not only serve to increase the candidate's chances of getting an interview, but it will also help in maintaining the trust of the hiring manager. The only problem with some resumes is that they seem to have nothing to do with what the person actually does. Instead, there is a lot of writing on the part of the individual. To the project manager, this can seem very unprofessional. The personal side of the resume will probably not give the hiring manager a good feeling about the individual, especially if it is a very long resume f illed with nothing except the applicant's personal background. The question is how to go about writing a resume that will not only bring in the job, but will also bring in the opportunity to do the job well. While most people would try to write a resume that covers all of the bases, project managers tend to focus on one or two areas. Thus, the job seeker must take this information and combine it with the personal and professional aspects of the resume so that the resume will shine through and speak for itself. The resume must highlight one's capabilities and strengths. On the other hand, the resume must also highlight the weaknesses of the individual. The individual must be honest with themselves when it comes to making an evaluation of their own capabilities. The decision to be dishonest about certain abilities or beliefs, while trying to come across as being more qualified than they actually are, is only going to add to the level of frustration that the hiring manager will experienc e in the course of the interview process. The resume should include references that can be used. If the person has any special skills, the references should also be listed. This is not a bad idea if the person has something that no one else has. Rather, it is better to not use references, and then be honest about the things that the person is good at.Resume writing services for project managers, if used properly, will actually help the individual to improve his or her chances of obtaining the job. If the person knows what it takes to get ahead in the organization, he or she will be far more likely to take on the responsibilities of a project manager.

Motivation Monday Just Stay Positive

Motivation Monday Just Stay Positive I had to laugh out loud.   I was watching TV and saw a program talking about how to reduce stress.   Their advice stay positive! Image from stopstressingnow.com Are you kidding me? If I cant reduce stress in my life, how in the world am I going to be able to stay positive?   The two go hand and hand.   Both are equally elusive.   If I could flip a switch and be positive, wouldnt I do that?   Come on people.     We need more than this type of help.   We need actionable steps that will us to feel positive! Here are some of my thoughts for actions that can lead to a better state of mind: Learn something new. Read, take online classes, enroll in a community college Theres nothing better than stimulating the brain.   Ive written about professional development before, here is a link to Finding Professional Development Ops Part 2. Here are some additional options for online learning: AcademicEarth.org Academic Earth is an organization founded with the goal of giving everyone on earth access to a world-class  education. iTunes U iTunes U â€" a powerful distribution system for everything from lectures to language lessons, films to labs, audiobooks to tours â€" is an innovative way to get educational content into the hands of students. KhanAcademy.org With a library of over 2,400 videos covering everything from arithmetic to physics, finance, and history and 125 practice exercises, were on a mission to help you learn whatever you want, whenever you want, at your own pace. Help Others Whether it is volunteering through an organization or offering help to a friend, family member or neighbor, helping others takes the focus off of us!   Give selflessly to others. Exercise and Eat Right When our bodies feel good, so do our brains!   A walk, yoga, swimming. What are you doing regularly to get you blood pumping (or at least flowing)!? Im not the best at following my own advice here, but I know when I do walk, I feel so much better after.   Hmmm, this could be because I walk with a friend who lets me dump my junkeither way, it works! If you arent eating the right food, your body wont perform the way it should.   Come on, you know this. Have on hand   healthier whole foods so you wont be tempted by the large slab of carrot cake in the fridge.   (Another laughable infomercial snippet from this weekend). Taking care of yourself- mind, body and spirit, is certainly work, but so worth the end results!
